Award: Up to £200

Eligibility: This award is open to anyone undertaking postgraduate work (including Masters- and Doctoral-level study); to Early Career Researchers (anyone within 5 years of the award of their PhD); and to any unaffiliated researchers. It is only open to members of the BSSH.

Parameters of the award:

The award is intended to support researchers with less stable institutional support overcome some of the obstacles in conducting research that the global pandemic has created. Examples of items that the fund may be used for include: research trips to archives/libraries, as and when they open, accessing e-books and other online resources, the purchase of technical equipment required for research. Applications for resources costing more than £200 will be considered, however, only a maximum of £200 will be reimbursed.

Your application should specify:

  • An outline of the project and its importance for Sport History
  • The amount requested
  • A summary of the how the pandemic has impacted your research and how this award will help you to continue your research
  • Details of other bodies funding the project (if applicable)

Requirements for successful bidders:

Successful bidders are to supply receipts for any award amount claimed.

Funding:

Finances from the award will be paid to the recipient retrospectively following the completion of the research trip, or the purchase of the relevant online resource, upon receipt of a full expenses claim.
