The Scotland Women's Association football side of 1881 has been inducted into the Scottish Football Hall of Fame. The side participated in the first women's association match against an England IX held at Hibs' old Easter Road ground on 7 May 1881. The Scotland side won 3-0. The induction was made at the prestigious SWF annual awards held at Hampden Park and Hall of Fame committee member Professor Fiona Skillen was presented with a commemorative plaque, a facsimile of a press advert for the game.

In her address, Professor Skillen stressed the importance of recognising these early pioneers of women's football and emphasised that women's football has a long history. An account of the 1881 women's football tour and a biography of one of the players Constance Cole can be found here.

Later in the evening Hall of Fame steering group member Tessel Middag was presented with the Val McDermid Spirt of SWF award in recognition of her research into the women's game in Scotland during the 1970s and speaking out on issues such as the proposed hosting of the 2034 in Saudi Arabia.
