We are delighted to announce the winner of the BSSH EPQ Prize for 2021: Anna Spencer from Stroud High School.

The Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) is an opportunity for sixth form students in England and Wales to do an independent research project. Now in its second year, this prize allows us to celebrate and support work addressing sport and physical culture at this level.

Anna's essay, 'To what extent does scientific evidence support the participation of transgender people in elite sport', gained praise from all judges for its mature approach, sophisticated writing, and confident deployment of evidence in support of her argument.

The prize was judged by Katie Taylor, Derek Peaple, Richard Boddie, and Dil Porter.

We are proud to offer the EPQ Prize as part of our commitment to the next generation of Sport History scholars, and send warmest congratulations to Anna along with sincere thanks to all entrants and to the judges for their efforts.
