We are delighted to announce the new Sport and Leisure History Seminar programme for the 2021 autumn term. Four seminars will take place between October and December.

The British Society of Sports History is committed to supporting the work of postgraduate, early career and independent researchers. This prize aims to provide an outlet for the exciting work that BSSH members are carrying out. The prize was first awarded in 2022 and in 2023/24, it was extended to include independent researchers. 

The Sport in History Best Article Award for 2020-21 was presented to Rafaelle Nicholson (Bournemouth University) and Matthew Taylor (DMU) for their article 'Women, sport and the people’s war in Britain, 1939–45'.

Registration is open for this year’s Women’s History Network, West Midlands Region Conference (in collaboration with the British Society of Sports History) at the University of Worcester is scheduled to take place on St. John’s Campus, Henwick Grove on Saturday, 6^th November 2021, 9am-5pm.

We're delighted to announce the winners of the Richard Cox Postgraduate Prize and our Sporting Inequalities Prize.

Professor Ramachandra Guha is announced as the second winner of the Howard Milton Award for Cricket Scholarship. Professor Guha is one of the world’s leading historians of cricket, with his 2002 publication A Corner of a Foreign Field: The Indian history of a British Sport being a landmark work in cricket history.
